Lesson 1: Consonants Q & J

Great start to Unit 6! Today we worked on the consonant sounds for “q” and “j”. Keep practicing these sounds using our vocabulary words!

Lesson 5: Letter Review

Impressive progress in phonics skills, particularly with short vowel sounds! Today we reviewed our short vowel sounds for A, E, I, O, and U.

Lesson 6: Prepositions #1

Today was our first class learning about prepositions! You did an excellent job in understanding this new concept. We can use prepositions of place to talk about where things are. 

  • Vocabulary to Practice: On, In, Next To, Under, Table, Stove, Oven, Fridge, Microwave, Bathtub, Toilet, Sink, Towel, Shower

  • Sentences: Practice using prepositions with sentences like “The ball is on/in/next to/under the box.”

 

Lesson 7: G vs. J

Awesome work today in class! The letters “g” and “j” can be easy to mix up. Keep an eye out for these letters while reading and writing!

  • Vocabulary to Practice: Job, Joy, Gut, Gem, Joke, Game, Pants, Shirt, Socks, Jacket, Shorts

  • Sentences: Practice using the “to be” verb in sentences like “I am happy.” “They are smart.” “It is a zebra.”

 

Lesson 8: Y as a Vowel

Fantastic job today! We worked on mastering using the letter “y” as a vowel sound. Remember, “y” can make 3 different sounds; long “i”, long “e”, and consonant “y” sound! Use our vocabulary words to practice these sounds at home.

Lesson 9: Prepositions #2

Good job today! You are flying high on your English mission! Today we practice the Magic E rule and continued to work on prepositions to describe locations! Practice describing things at home using the prepositions!

  • Vocabulary to Practice: Mat/Mate, Sit/Site, Cut/Cute, On, In, Next To, Under, Above, In Front Of, Behind, Between

  • Sentences: Try sentences like “The ball is above/in front of/behind/between the trees” or “The book is between the boxes.”
