Intermediate ESL Curriculum for Online Teachers

In the Going UP ESL Curriculum, students in levels 3-4 are at an intermediate English level. These are some of the most fun lessons to teach. Intermediate ESL students are still building their vocabulary but can chat about a broader range of topics! Their English skills can improve rapidly during this time!

Students at this level still benefit from high-energy intermediate ESL lessons that will spike their interest. They need to be challenged or given support depending on their skill level. We designed our intermediate ESL lessons to make scaffolding easy and help coax your students to speak more! We included exciting graphics and animations (as always!) to make the class more interesting!

Read on for a short guide to help you and your student get the most out of our Level 3-4 Intermediate Online ESL Curriculum!

How should I pace the Intermediate English Lessons?

We recommend your students take only 1-2 classes per week.

If your student is more advanced in certain aspects, you may want to skip through these slides or extend them longer. You can decide to focus more on reading, speaking, or both based on what your student needs to practice.

If you finish class early, you can have your student create their own story based on the unit theme. It is a great way to challenge them and work on their creative use of English!

At this level, the focus is on building their speaking confidence. Practice the sentence structures a lot and work on using complete sentences, first with support and later independently.

Remember to allow Level 3 and 4 students to talk anytime they open up and extend their responses. You can always come back to finish the lesson in the next class!

Is the Intermediate ESL Curriculum Interactive?

The Level 3 and 4 Online ESL Curriculum is fully interactive. Each unit has slides with click & drag activities, clickable buttons, interactive rewards, gifs, transitions, audio effects, hover effects, and games.

Check out some of our favorite interactive slides from Levels 3 and 4!

How do I use these lessons in class?

You can access the Intermediate ESL Curriculum in the Curriculum Control Center. Just select your unit and start teaching!

You can view sample slides without signing up. To access the complete lessons, you need to become a Pioneer Teacher. Use the long free trial period to ensure our Online ESL Curriculum works for your student’s learning goals. You can cancel your membership anytime.

(We also have a free teaching tool on our homepage where we put the first lesson from each unit! Have fun testing it out with your students!)

To use the slides, open your browser and screen share directly into the class using your favorite teaching platform. The interactive features will work for you. However, interactivity will only work for your student if you use a platform that allows co-browsing. (Try KoalaGo or RemoteHQ)

Read more about using RemoteHQ with this curriculum here.

In ClassIn, interactivity will work for the student if you use teacher screen share and the student uses a computer. It does not currently work if the student is on a tablet. The ClassIn browser tool works well for cleanly presenting the lesson without screen share.

Even if your student can’t use the interactive features, having the interactive slides (especially drag/drop) is helpful when explaining concepts. It still will hold their attention better than a static slide. We hope to see more co-browsing solutions geared toward education!

To sum it up...

Our Intermediate ESL Curriculum is fun for students and teachers to work on together! Level 3 and 4 ESL students build their vocabulary base, speaking confidence, and comprehension skills while perfecting their English grammar. The Intermediate ESL lessons will prepare them for more advanced speaking themes and vocabulary.
